Emotional Intelligence: A Leadership Imperative (Open Enrollment Executive Education)

Charles F. Knight Executive Education & Conference Center, 1 Brookings Dr, St. Louis, MO 63130 | map

Personal competence in Emotional Intelligence is a leadership imperative and a performance game changer. Emotional Intelligence is having the capacity to act purposely, think rationally and deal effectively with your environment and the uncertainty and risk of everyday living. There is nothing "soft" about being emotionally intelligent. It's a "smart" skill set. Leaders that demonstrate a high degree of Emotional Intelligence consistently get things done with and through others without human carnage. Increasing Emotional Intelligence takes practice. It is learning how to remain calm and clearheaded when you are about to lose your temper; how to be effective and productive when your frustration levels are high and you are about to say or do something self-destructive and regrettable; how to be positive and powerful when you are feeling overwhelmed by forces over which you have no control; and how to be trust-willing in the midst of conflict and change. As you advance in your career, regardless of your particular industry, functional role or technical expertise, your time is increasingly focused on working with others across functions, time zones and cultures in order to achieve results--rather than relying solely on your own technical skills. "Know thy-self" is a pre-requisite for effective leadership and the cornerstone competence of EI. With self-knowledge in mind, we provide a confidential on-line appraisal to assess your current degree of personal and social competence in EI. You will use your results to develop an actionable pathway to increase your Emotional Intelligence and leadership performance. Find out more online.
